The challenge
I was approached by a client based in Benin Republic who wanted to revolutionize the fintech landscape in the country. His vision was for a single, all-in-one fintech application capable of handling everyday bill payments, integrating a cryptocurrency wallet, and supporting P2P transactions for users to buy or sell crypto directly in the app.
This was a bold and ambitious project, given the broad scope, so my first step was to break it down into manageable sections — focusing on users who need to pay bills and buy crypto and businesses that would sell crypto.
Discovery and research
To start, I needed to understand the existing market dynamics in Benin Republic and see how similar platforms were structured. I researched fintech platforms that allowed bill payments, crypto wallets, and P2P transactions.
For the user side (bill payments and crypto transactions), I analyzed platforms like Binance and Bybit to study the P2P layout and flow, which were quite similar. I knew I needed to bring familiarity into the design while also ensuring the app would stand out with unique features like importing wallets and creating new wallets.
For the business side, I reviewed platforms with merchant integrations, ensuring the design would allow businesses to easily sell cryptocurrencies in addition to the typical user transactions.
Ideation and information architecture
I broke the app into two primary user groups:
End users: These customers would focus on paying bills, buying, and storing cryptocurrency.
Businesses: These users would focus on selling cryptocurrency.
The user flows were designed to clearly support both functions — from simple payments to handling more complex crypto transactions.
Designing the user side
Once the flows were set, I focused on the user interface for the core features:
Bill Payment and Wallet: I wanted to make sure the bill payment process was quick and intuitive, with users feeling confident navigating the app. For the wallet feature, the goal was to offer users the ability to import existing wallets seamlessly, as well as create new wallets if needed.

P2P Marketplace: I dug deep into existing platforms like Binance and Bybit, as these platforms have some of the most polished P2P experiences. The flow and design were similar to what I had seen, but I focused on tailoring it to Kryptapay’s brand and ensuring it felt fresh and native to the platform. The goal here was to create something familiar but intuitive and aligned with Kryptapay’s vision.
For the overall layout, I used familiar design patterns to ensure users felt at ease from the moment they opened the app, with a clean and cohesive design that kept Kryptapay’s unique features front and center.

Designing the business side
The business side of the app was similar to the user side but with a key difference: businesses needed the ability to sell cryptocurrencies directly. I kept the general design structure in line with the user side, ensuring ease of navigation and functionality for business users to quickly view their sales and manage transactions.
For businesses, I incorporated clear action points so they could track the buying and selling process, as well as maintain a secure, streamlined experience for handling crypto transactions.
